There is one Rolex that started the craze as we know it today and that is the 16520 Automatic Daytona.
This is the watch that gave birth to the Rolex Mania and the endless waiting lists for the desired watch concurring??with parallel market sales of the unobtainable holy grail.
After nearly 30 years Rolex decided to update the manual wound ??”Cosmograph” with a new caliber: based on the Zenith El Primero movement there was a new engine powering the new Daytona launched in 1987.
The watch was literally on fire as soon as it was presented and produced in very limited quantities throughout the year 2000. This is a watch where you had to pay over the list to have it and it’s a watch that today is a modern collectible increasing in value along with the manual Daytonas.
This specific timepiece is part of the early productions that had a satin finish case and bracelet along with the famous “inverted 6” in the lower sub register of the dial. The later production had a two tone polished look bracelet.
I find the satin finish to be more “golden era” Rolex and I find it to be more elegant and classic.
This watch has a good case that has been previously polished still retaining it’s back end sharpness.
The steel insert is beautiful with all the numbers intact , even and black. The dial is clean and the registers took a nice beige patina very desirable on this reference.
The bracelet is the classic 78360 Oyster satin finish, I love that bracelet reference! It has some stretch from wear but still life to go.
Accompanied by it’s Original Rolex Warranty , card holder and inner/ outer box set.
Running smooth and keeping time.
A fantastic daily wearer!
