In 1972, Cartier moved the watches production from France to Switzerland, to La Chaux de Fonds at Ebel. From this cooperation was born the “Louis Cartier” collection, 12 gold models with gold buckle inspired along the lines of the past, but revised in a modern key.
Here we have the watch that most embodies the spirit of those days, the iconic Jumbo Gondole (or Vertical TV / Ellipse ) is very masculine, very cool, very sexy and in white gold let me say uber rare. 98% of vintage Cartier watches in the market are in yellow gold, a white example of any reference is extremely sought after and desirable.
This reference in white is in fact so rare that it’s featured in Franco Cologni’s “Cartier Bianco (White)” book and there are only 4 known examples worldwide ( I was fortunate to acquire #3<Sold> and this is #4).
The 18k white gold JUMBO ribbed case measuring 34 mm width and 40mm length(!) is in fine sharp crisp conditions with full proportions and strong curves. The finely brushed finish case back and it’s serial number along with hallmark engravings are crisp and sharp. The beaded cabochon crown is exquisite.
The original and wonderful classic Cartier layout with capital letters signature and “PARIS” at 6 position is in mint pristine conditions along with the blued hand set. It is important to say that most of these dials don’t age well and this specimen is just bellissimo!
The mechanical manual wind Cartier movement is running strong and keeping time.
On it’s original and scarce white gold deployment buckle with correct stamps etc and it’s original black crocodile Cartier strap that will fit a 7.5 inch wrist.
A sensational timepiece for a class A collector of tasteful vintage watches. Do not let this opportunity escape you!
