Audemars Piguet Vintage Steel Tonneau 5369 Hobnail Everything on Rare bracelet
A rare and fine watch from Audemars Piguet: the sporty and understated reference 5369 here boasting a hobnail dial matched by it’s original and rare Milanese mesh steel sizable bracelet. The same reference and configuration was auctioned at Phillips a few years ago https://www.phillips.com/detail/AUDEMARS-PIGUET/CH080216/104 . Pre Royal Oak this watch has all the flavor of what was going to be shortly after with the famous Gerald Genta design.
The steel tonneau case measuring 33.5 with wonderful presence on the wrist is in nice sharp original conditions retaining a well defined beveled edge of case and crisp finish on bezel with light wear.
The hobnail texture dial with bright silver background is attractive and reflects the light beautifully when worn, some aging and discoloration on the bottom of dial visible in the pictures don’t take away from the experience of wearing this rare watch.
The manual wind AP caliber 2002 with center seconds is running strong and smooth.
The original AND detachable bracelet with great fluidity and rich finish is in fine conditions along with its original clasp signed AP which permits the wearer to size the strap to the preferred measurement, truly a great feature never found on other APs and mesh bracelets of the era.
A true grail for the vintage AP lover.
