Watches like this don’t walk in every day: a Vintage Patek Philippe large chronograph reference 1579 also called “spider lugs” furthermore in fine conditions and accompanied by it’s original warranty is a superb discovery indeed.
This watch was manufactured in 1948 and sold in 1949 as per the Patek Philippe extract from the archives.
The case is crisp, full and thick with original proportions and well defined faceted lugs. The hallmark on the side of the case is deep and sharp. The yellow gold acquired a wonderful warm color and in some part oxidized to a fantastic purple hue. The square chronograph pushers are sharp, the crown is the original one.
The dial is in overall pristine conditions with some minor aging at it’s edges. The hand set is in good conditions and is in blue steel typical of the 1940s.
The movement is clean and functions properly, the chronograph starts- stops and resets smoothly.
On original Patek Philippe alligator strap and Patek Philippe original vintage buckle.
Accompanied by it’s original warranty with matching numbers to the extract archives along with extract from the archives stating date of manufacture and sale. The watch was sold originally on a yellow gold bracelet which wore out in the years and replaced by a leather strap.
All in all a fantastic watch deserving of a world class collection.
