What a fantastic mid 60s Submariner in nice original conditions, doesn’t happen everyday.
1.4 million serial dates it to 1966, in my books.
The case is thick with even lugs. Prominent original beveled edges fully visible. The bezel is thick with sharp teeth. The insert is vivid black with nice thick numerals. The tritium pip perfectly matches the patina on the dial.
The dial is very attractive with it’s glossy background and gilded font text. This gilt dial with tall Rolex coronet is called “Bart Simpson” since it resembles the hair of the famous cartoon character. It is the last of the gilt dials and is very rare to find in nice conditions. The glossy background has some spots visible under certain lights but overall is in nice conditions. The tritium plots are in fantastic conditions, fully original and all matching in their deep cream patina. The hand set is in nice conditions.
The Swiss rivet bracelet is in decent conditions with some expected stretch. The clasp is stamped 68.
The movement is running strong and keeping time. The case back is original and properly stamped for the watch.
All in all an attractive and masculine 60s Submariner!
