A really attractive Vintage Submariner reference 5508, also called the “James Bond”.
400k serial dates it to 1958, in my books.
The case is thick with even lugs and prominent original beveled. The original coin edge bezel is in top conditions. The insert has faded to an attractive dark chocolate color. The case back is stamped III.58.
The gilt font and glossy background dial is extremely attractive having turned to a dark and warm chocolate brown color. The gilded text is in perfect conditions. The chapter ring is in crisp conditions. The radium lume plots aged to a nice pumpkin color and are all uniform and matched by the gilt hand set in fantastic conditions. The indexes and hand set glow under UV light (correct for radium) and test high for radioactivity.
The folded link jubilee bracelet has decent stretch as expected.
a really fantastic James Bond Submariner!
