Patek Philippe’s “Golden Ellipse” is the epitome of elegance, going strong since the late 1960s.
Geometrically perfect in it’s shape and proportions and made into an iconic reality by master designer Gerald Genta for Patek Philippe.
I am a big fine of the Golden Ellipse since it’s the noble predecessor of the Nautilus and the choice of aristocrats and industrialists.
This specific timepiece is a reference 3738 , a model that has been in production since the late 70s up to just about 2018. Now discontinued, in my opinion a must have in a classic collection.
The case is crisp and unpolished featuring deep and sharp hallmarks on it’s underside and nice sharp curved lines. Jumbo size 35x31mm and 6mm thin!
The dial of the Ellipse is the main feat: the magnificent “sunburst blue” effect is achieved by layering the originally gold dial with a vellum type DLC blue powder coating. A Patek Philippe patent that has not been repeated by any other manufacturer. No blemishes or scratches on the dial surface, it is in pristine conditions. The hand set is in fine conditions with no issues. We can find some wear on the crystal edges, not visible when on the wrist.
The automatic and ultra thin caliber 240 is running strong with no issues.
On it’s original Alligator Patek Philippe strap with the absolutely iconic original Ellipse buckle (in my opinion the coolest of all times).
A fantastic and elegant watch, you can dress it up or down, enjoy it and then pass it on to next generation.
