I found this gem on my last buying trip in my hometown of Milano…featuring Verga (an historical Rolex retailer in the city) signature on the dial this watch has been part of a collection in the area for over 80 years.
The ultra sharp and crisp carre’ galbe style case measuring a masculine 28 x 37 is in true original conditions showcasing an incredibly deep hallmark in the side of the case along with very defined edges and facets all over. The serial and reference number engraving on the case back cover is deep and crisp.
The original super domed crystal is truly magnificent and a testament to the old world flavor and quality manufacturing of gone times. It is reminiscent to me of the 1930/40s automobile curved bodies of those days. Preserved in overall nice conditions and really an attractive feature of the watch.
The “priest’s hat” crown is original and a great feature of Precision Rolex watches of the 40s/50s.
The champagne color dial is in nice vintage conditions with some aging still looking young and sexy. The Verga signature is crisp along with the “Rolex chronometre” (alternative of “Precision”) and swiss made at 6. The blue steel hand set is in pristine conditions.
The manual wind “Precision” Rolex movement is winding smooth and running fine.
On vintage crocodile flat strap and original gold plated Rolex tang buckle.
This watch checks for me all the boxes: rarity, size, condition, unique details such as the ultra domed crystal – priest’s hat crown and fabled retailer’s signature and most of all hits the soft spot I have for the rare Rolex Precision and Chronometre line that is still under the radar of the mainstream sheep watch collecting world.
A beautiful wrist presence breathing masculinity and old world charm a la Goldberger.
