An absolutely exquisite and uber rare Rolex “Chronometre” really ticking all the boxes of desirability, quality and design.
The Rolex Precision and Chronometre line of gentleman wristwatches from the 40s/50s/60s is very interesting to me and really embodies the essence of those days with elegant lines and refined details.
48k serial dates it to 1938, in my books.
The super sharp stainless steel case completely fools us with a 33.5 mm measurement while appearing like a 36mm timepiece given the slim body and very thin bezel. The lugs are sharp, even and strong with a gorgeous straight edge angle. The serial number engraving on the finely milled case back is deep and crisp. The “priest’s hat” crown really captivates me.
The sexy salmon dial, so desirable and so unique, is in overall fine conditions with some aging on the peripheral. The elongated roman numeral markers mixed with the baton indices is a quintessential art deco design. The original hand set is drop dead gorgeous with the monocle style hour hand reminiscent of a scientific instrument.
The manual wind Rolex Precision movement is winding smoothly and running fine.
On vintage new old stock crocodile strap and generic steel buckle.
A really fine and rare watch, irreplaceable -dare I say, well deserving a sophisticated wrist and world class vintage watch collection.
