The Cartier Santos Dumont is the very first wrist watch ever made. The fabled Alberto Santos Dumont of early aviation days fame requested from Louis Cartier a timepiece to be worn on his wrist during his flights and the same design we see here was what was delivered over 100 years ago. Standing strong to this day the Santos Dumont watch is as iconic as can be.
9xxx serial dates it to the mid / end of 1980s.
The 18k yellow gold measuring the classic 27 width x 36mm lug length is crisp and sharp retaining it’s original brushed and polished finish combination, raised riveted bezel and exceptional eagle’s beak lugs. The serial number and hallmarks are crisp and deep on the finely milled case back.
The classic Cartier layout dial is in overall fine conditions, there is some spidering visible under light reflection and upon very close inspection. The blue steel hand set is in pristine conditions.
The manual wind ultra thin manual wind Cartier movement is running fine, I do not have service history for it.
