A really refined timepiece from Cartier this vintage Ellipse from the early 80s sold in the Paris boutique. Embodying fully the Cartier mystique with it’s ribbed yellow gold fancy shape case and quintessential Roman numeral with minute track dial layout topped by the sapphire cabochon crown.
Cartier made two sizes of this model: one for ladies (madame Ellipse) and one for the gents (monsieur Ellipse) and different takes on case shape of this ribbed bezel design. (All is in the Cartier book by Jader Barracca and friends).
The 18k yellow gold case measuring 32x 29 mm is in attractive conditions with full proportions, beautiful crisp French hallmarks on the finely milled case back (signs of the seal sticker still visible). The sapphire cabochon crown is intact. The yellow gold acquired a warm patina which is very charming.
The porcelain like dial is in fine conditions with a stark white background and vivid signatures and fonts (hidden signature visible at 7 marker). Minor aging at the peripheral. The blue steel hand set is in pristine conditions.
The manual wind Cartier movement is winding extremely smooth and running strong.
On military green satin leather lined strap and Cartier vintage deployment 18k buckle.
A really fine timepiece for the person with an appetite for the classy and cool.
